Affiliate marketers are recruited by firms who need sales. The affiliate contract is mostly action based; when the promotion leads to a sale the seller pays a commission to the affiliate. Alternatively, sellers may reward affiliates for lead generation. Affiliates can choose products to promote from different databases. These databases attract online marketers throughout the world. As a rule of thumb, the objective of a seller is to generate as much sales, where the affiliate wants to earn as much commission as possible. This alleged conflict of interest may recruit too many affiliates who in turn have difficulties making a decent commission.
